Story of Role-Playing

The history of traditional (non-electronic) gaming is fascinating, and I fear that in a hobby as young as role-playing, too much has already been lost beyond recovery with the deaths in recent years of such gaming pioneers as E. Gary Gygax, Dave Arneson, Tom Moldvay, J. Eric Holmes, N. Robin Crossby, and others. We, as gamers, need to embrace our latent calling as archivists, historians, and journalists, because the founders of our hobby are mortals like us. We need to preserve what we have and whatever we find; we need to record and share our research; and, most urgently, we need to meet (and play games with) those who were there from the beginning.

As a small contribution to those goals, I have added a new section to my Links page: Story of Role-Playing. This is merely a collection of links to other sites where other gamers have been doing the work of interviewing those who were involved in the early days of the role-playing hobby and/or industry. This is an ongoing project as there are more articles to be written and many existing links I have missed. Anyone who knows of other articles and interviews related to the history of role-playing is welcome to share the links in the comments. Thank you.
